Locking Down your Virtual Time Clock:
You may wish to lock down your virtual time clocks so you employee may not access/use the time clock from any other computer, cell phone or tablet. This will ensure your employee are at their place of work when clocking in/out. To lock down your time clocks you have two options you may:
- Lock down your time clock by Cookie: This means when you install the time clock a browser "cookie" will be placed within the browser of the user account logged into the computer. This cookie MUST be present when your employees attempt to clock in/out of work. If the employees copy the URL to the time clock and attempt to access the time clock from their home computer the cookie will not be present and the time clock will not load.
- Lock down your time clock by IP Address: IP Addresses are unique addresses for each computer/network on the internet. They are similar to your house/apartment address. It is unique and offers a pseudo "identity" while on the internet. You may provide during the setup and management of the time clock a unique IP Address that is allowed to access the time clock. Since IP Addresses are unique, if an employee were to copy the URL to the time clock and attempt to access it from their home or cell phones the IP Address would not match the one specified within the time clock and the time clock would not load.
- Clock in Using: You may wish to further lock down your time clock by only allowing clock in/out using an RFID card or Radio Frequency ID card or fingerprint biometric device.
- Using RFID: By forcing your employees to clock in/out using this RFID card the time clock itself must have a RFID reader. Typically, employees will not spend the hundreds of dollars on these readers for their cell phones and/or home phones therefore not allowing them to clock in/out from any other computer except the ones you want them to use.
- Using Fingerprint Biometric: Biometric is the ultimate implementation method if buddy punching is a concern of your agency. Employees will select their name from a drop-down list and then simply place their enrolled finger to the fingerprint reader and the time clock will do the rest.
